Quick answer: EMF clothing is made from conductive silver-fiber fabric that attenuates the RF signals reaching the area it covers — a beanie shields the head area, a base layer the torso, and so on. What Is EMF Clothing?
EMF clothing is everyday apparel woven with a conductive metal fiber — usually silver, sometimes copper or stainless steel — so the fabric conducts electricity and acts as a flexible Faraday-style shield. Where an ordinary shirt is transparent to Wi-Fi and cellular signals, silver-fiber fabric reflects and absorbs a portion of them, lowering the RF level reaching the skin underneath. What It Does — and What It Doesn't
What it verifiably does: attenuates RF over the area the garment physically covers. A hood covers your head; it does nothing for your legs. Coverage is everything, and no garment shields what it doesn't cover.
What we don't claim: we do not say EMF clothing prevents illness, cures symptoms, improves sleep, or helps any medical condition. Some people — including those who identify as having electromagnetic hypersensitivity — choose to wear it; the World Health Organization notes such symptoms are real for those affected but has not established EMF as their cause. How to Choose: Garment by Coverage
Pick by what you want covered and how you'll wear it — full picks and prices are in our EMF clothing buyer's guide.
- Head: a beanie or cap for daily wear, a sleep cap for overnight, or a full mesh hood for face-and-neck coverage. These match the common "faraday hat" and "faraday beanie" searches.
- Torso: a silver-fiber base layer worn under normal clothes gives continuous coverage; a mesh t-shirt is the breathable warm-weather version; hoodies and vests add outerwear coverage.
- Pregnancy: aprons, tops, and dresses that cover the abdomen — described by cut and coverage only, with no health promise (see the pregnancy note in the guide).
- Extremities & on-the-go: gloves for the hands, a blanket for lap/travel, a bandana or face mask for partial face coverage.
Does It Actually Work? Measure, Don't Guess
You don't have to take our word for it. With an RF meter you can measure the field near a transmitting source (a phone mid-call, a router), then measure again with the fabric between the meter and the source — a working garment shows a lower reading through the fabric. Caring for Conductive Fabric (This Matters)
Silver-fiber garments are not ordinary laundry, and this is the part most sellers skip: harsh washing degrades the conductive coating over time, which reduces shielding.
- Hand-wash or use a gentle cycle in cold water; no bleach, no fabric softener (softener coats the fibers and kills conductivity).
- Air-dry flat — skip the dryer's heat and tumbling.
- Follow the specific care label on your garment; treat it as performance gear, not a cotton tee.
The Honest Limits
- Coverage only. Apparel shields the covered area, not your whole body, and not the room. To lower ambient levels you'd change the source or add distance — measure first with a meter.
- No verified attenuation number without a lab. We don't publish dB figures for garments we haven't had independently tested — see shielding effectiveness for why unsourced numbers are meaningless.
- Fit and gaps matter. Loose fit and openings let signal in around the fabric, the same way a gap ruins a Faraday cage.
